"Various growth factors and cytokines may affect hair growth. These factors generally act on cells of the dermal papilla as well as on follicular stem cells. They include fibroblast growth factor (FGF) and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) that potentiate the growth of dermal papilla cells, mostly by increasing the production of stromolysin, a metallo-protease that accelerates the growth of the PSU.
Other local factors such as TGF-b, IGF-I, interleukin-1, and epidermal growth factor (EGF) inhibit or attenuate the growth of the PSU."
Não sei qual a finalidade da IGF-I nesse caso, se pelo que entendi ela inibe o crescimento. Mas suponho que seja para regulação da produção de 5ar.
"Moreover, skin production of 5a-reductase is also regulated by local factors (e.g., transforming growth factor-b [TGF-b] and insulin-like growth factor-I [IGF-I] and its binding proteins) and circulating factors (e.g., circulating IGF-I and androgens)."
